Martingale Collars - Ornamental Safety Equipment?

Back to Site

MARTINGALE COLLARS ...   should never be left on a dog while unattended since this style collar tightens when pulled on.  Used properly, for walking and training, it is indispensable for sighthounds that can back out of a regular collar or for dogs that pull, want to chase cars and bikes, or need to be controlled when walking on a leash.

Because their heads are smaller than their necks, Greyhounds, Whippets, and other Sighthounds should only wear Martingale Collars (also known as Greyhound Collars or Sighthound Collars)

Martingale with Side Release Buckle (SRB) is appropriate for all other types of dogs where you want more control than provided by a regular collar.  Also referred to as a soft choke collar, this style dog collar is good for dogs that pull.

CUSTOM MARTINGALE COLLAR SPECIFICATIONS ... NOTES FROM THE DESIGNER:

I have created a line of dog collars that is SAFE (I use Rock Locksterâ„¢ or Weinerlockâ„¢ buckles in my side-release collars and premium cast hardware in my martingale collars); COMFORTABLE, STYLISH and TOP QUALITY.

Martingale Collars - Ornamental Safety Equipment?
Martingale Collars are more than just pretty strips of fabric around your dog's neck. I like to call them Ornamental Safety Equipment because that pretty strip of fabric is all that is keeping your couch potato from bolting out into traffic and getting badly hurt! I have dedicated my business to providing the safest possible collar while still keeping it "pretty"! :)

Martingale Collars - The Base
All collars start off with polypro webbing. Lightweight webbing flexes gently around your hound's neck but passes weight tests up to 600 lbs/inch so it will hold even the strongest hound in check.

Martingale Collars - Premium Quality Hardware
Hardware is another component that I take very seriously. I only use Solid Cast Brass or Nickel Plated Steel Welded D-rings. Any other D-ring is simply not safe. The slides that I use are premium Brass or Nickel Plated Zinc - a lessor slide would work but I prefer the look of the Cast slides and I think the end result is worth the cost.

Stitching
Which leads me to the stitching that holds your Martingale Collar together. First, I use an Industrial Machine and Colormatched Bonded Nylon Industrial Weight thread. I don't use any fancy zig zag stitches because they can actually shred the webbing and weaken it. I use a Strong, Tight, Lockstitch and I sew each weight bearing seam twice. And yes, it DOES Matter how close you sew to the D-ring. It matters for aesthetics and it also matters because a loose D-ring will "spin" and wear through the collar faster .I believe very strongly in my workmanship and quality and I do Guarantee EVERY Martingale and Buckle collar I sell against any flaws in workmanship.

The Lining
Each Martingale collar comes with a Cuddle Satin lining which is wrapped around the webbing, leaving no exposed edges.  The Cuddle Satin lining provides a slightly padded interior and a super soft surface that will protect even the most sensitive neck. Cuddle Satin is a flannel backed satin that is softer than anything else I have found and therefore it is the ONLY lining I use in the wrap-around option.

Fashion Forward Design
From Handloomed Lation Silk to French Jacquard Ribbon to Silk Brocades, and even Scalamandre Silk, I choose each fabric or ribbon myself to provide you with a stunning collar that is perfect for your dog!
